Rotten Swamps

Rotten Swamps took its name from horrible stench spreading throughout the swamps and slimy green color of mud and its flora. Deep in the centre of the swamps there is an ancient temple of long forgotten Frog God full of mysteries and horror.

Witch's Hut(hex34.19) Small round thatched hut with stone-walls. Insidie there is only one room with fireplace at the center and a wide bed covered with old furs. The only inhabitant of this hut is a woman 30ish, voluptuous with long curly black hair. Anyone who comes to her hut will by sincerely greeted with food and drink. She will poison or charm adventurers, to make a human sacrafice of them in the Temple of the Frog God.

Temple of the Frog God(hex 32.21) Big ancient building made of black stone. Partially covered with moss and other swamp fauna. Also covered with carvings of unintelligilble horror. Seems to be abandoned ages ago.

Halfling Hills

Halfling Hills after centuries of discrimination and pogroms of Halflings in the Groβe Reich, to prevent further turmoil emperor gave a small hilly land on the border of the Reich. Halflings eagerly settled down there. Emperor also granted them the “de nontolerandis Humanitatis” law which forbade any human to settle in Halfling Hills under the penalty of death.

Player races of the Barbaric Frontier

Humans
Humans are the most numerous of the races of the known world, they spread to the farest its reaches.

Dwarfs
Dwarfs are a race of small but stout race of mountain dwellers brought on to the edge of extinction. They try to avoid contact with any other races except for exiles from their society who live among humans.

Elfs
Elfs are a mystery in the known world, they seem to embody each and every aspect of nature itself, both graceful and wild, of untamed passion and secretiveness. They seem so human, yet, their culture and mentality seems very alien to other races, which cause many conflicts in the relations with other races.

Halflings
The most “human” race of demi-humans, short very often fat with furry feet. Peaceful and jovial people living in small enclaves on outskirts of human civilization.

W.I.P barbarians

These are my barbarians for the Song of Blades and Heroes Barbaric Frontier Campaign and for my sandbox game as previously posted Ulf the Swift. Some of them nearly finished, some of them barely touched by paint, although I wanned to show them to you my gentle readers. Most of them are old grenadier barbarians with some Warhammer Quest additions.

Ulf the Swift, dwarven mercenary from Neuburg

Here's my next fig for the Song of Blades and Heroes Barbaric Frontier Campaign. Basically it's an old metal dwarven archer from Citadel's LotR BSG range with swapped bow for a mace from bretonian infantry sprue, a dwarf pouch and throwing knife as a dagger from Mordheim accessory sprue.

Magic items in the Barbaric Frontier

One of the iconic features of all D&D-derived games are magic items. So it seems apropriate to say something about them in the context of my campaign. So as you my gentle readers may have noticed Barbaric Frontier is quite low-magic setting, with no "ye old magick shoppe" thing in it, and main civilisation's "burn the witch!" attitude towards the magic, I came to the conclusion that I will have quite a big problem concerning treasures and in general loot earned through the course of upcoming campaign. Only gold? meh, that's plain boring. So I thought, heck, I'll shoot some nice magic stuff their. But not the way It looks in a typical D&D campaign. I thought about the concept of magic stuff that have it's orgin in the Earthdawn game(well and sorta transposed to the d20 thing in Midnight campaign setting in the way of Legacy Weapons IIRC). So getting to the point - most of the magic items that my players will come across at first won't have any magical bonus in it. First they will have to be "attuned" to it by spending some XP on it. However, once acquireing  It won't be possible to "attune" it straight away by spending already earned XP. To do so one will have to earn some XP having in mind the attunement of the magic item. After that first bonus will be available for the PC. Each level, PC will have the opportunity to get more "attunned" to the magic item, and doing so achiving more bonuses and special features from it.

Here's an example

Hildugrun, the "Blood drinker", sword of long forgotten hero of the north, whose pride and greed brought him to his demise.

1st - +1 "to hit" bonus, 1d4 sanity loss(both wielder and enemy)
2nd - +1 damage bonus, 1d6 sanity loss, save vs. fear for beastmen
3rd - +2 "to hit" bonus against beastmen, 1d8 sanity loss
4th - +2 damage bonus against beastmen. 1d10 sanity loss

Oh hell it a very long post, so sorry.
Ah and sorry for my poor english.

Graphic inspiration vol. I

Since something fucked-up with my internet connection, while posting about meshing cthulhu mythos with Barbaric Frontier I'm posting some art that inspires me to work on BF.

Languages of the Barbaric Frontier

Languages are quite important in the Barbaric Frontier Campaign, since it's set in the eponymous frontier, where different cultures and nations interact.

Reichspiel - is the language of the Größe Reich, well it's a equivalent of late-medieval german language.

Barbaric Language - is the language of barbarians, sounds like gaellic.

Klassik - it's my campaign equivalent of Latin, it's a language of scholars and the Church of the One.

Zwergisch - it's a language of dwarfs, who live among humans of the Größe Reich.

Elven Language - pretty self-explanatory. Sounds like finnish.

Dwarven Language - as above. Sounds like icelandic.

Skrell - language of Skraeling savages, sounds like euskara(Basque language).

Halfling language - language of Halflings of the Größe Reich, sounds like dutch language.

Trade Speak - it's a lingua franca of my campaign world, not precisely a common language, but something that helps comunnicating with foreigners.

Witch-hunter class

Witch-hunter
Witch-hunters are appointed sword arm of the Sanctum Officium of the Church of the One. Their sole goal is to fight heresy, paganism and cabals of sorcerers. Some of them were sent to the Barbaric Frontier – definitely a sign of fall from the grace of Officium, since it’s the most dangerous territory to operate.

Weapon and armor restrictions: Witch-hunter is proficient with sword, dagger, crossbow, leather and chainmail armor.

Righteous Fury: at 1st level once per day Witch-hunter go into Righteous Fury, which grants +1 to attack roll and damage to a normal adversary, and +2 to both rolls in combat with the Devil and his minions. This ability can be used twice at 5th level and three times at 10th level.

Evil Banishment: Witch-hunter is a Will of the One against the Devil and its minions. Feared by a mere exposure to the sign of the One and his zealous follower, can be casted away into the darkest pits of the Hell. This ability works the same as cleric’s turning undead ability. Witch-hunter can add his WIS modifier to the banishment roll.
